Head Lice: Making You Scratch Your Head?
You feel embarrassed when you have to scratch your head in front of others and still you don’t know, why? Could it be head lice making you scratch your head? Head louse (plural lice) is a tiny but tough, parasite that lives among human head hair. They feed on a small amount of blood drawn from our scalp. Their bites result into itching on our scalp, actually a reaction to their saliva. Although, head lice are not dangerous and they do not spread any particular disease, yet it is frustrating to have something live, and moving in our hair. So, we should treat head lice as early as they are found. Remember, shaving your head is not the solutions. Luckily, we can help you to get rid of head lice at home.
The simple and cheap way to get rid of head lice is to comb your hair with a nit comb. Remember, nit comb should be fine and in one piece i.e. you should always use a new nit comb so it may have fine teeth. Lubrication helps a lot while combing hair so put some oil or conditioner before doing so. The same way, wet hair carries better results so tip is to wet your hair and use some lubrication hair oil, and then comb out your entire hair twice. Repeat this process at least after every 3-4 days.
Almond Oil & Olive Oil
Almond and olive oil have natural property of smothering and suffocating head lice. So, when we use almond oil or olive oil to lubricate our hair, it not only slower but also kills the most of the head lice. So, first coat your hair with almond or olive oil, whatsoever, you have; and then comb your entire hair in good day light. Be sure to clean your nit comb multiple times while you comb your entire hair. So, you may not infest dead lice or their eggs again in your head. After combing, shampoo your hair thoroughly with warm water. Do this daily for a week and see the result yourself.
Mayonnaise and Vaseline
Mayonnaise and vaseline have anti-lice properties if we use these to saturate our hair. Simply, put mayonnaise or vaseline into your head and cover it up for some hours, say 5-6 hours. 12 hours may be the best for results. Now, shampoo your hair without using water first and again cover your head for 30 minutes. This helps to soften the hair. Now wash and thoroughly rinse your hair. Use some lubricating oil and use wide spaced comb to remove tangles in your hair. After that, use nit comb in the described way to get rid of head lice.
Essential oils help in getting rid of head lice in two ways. Firstly, these provide lubrication and help in clearing head with a nit comb. Secondly, these slowdown head lice and some of the essential oils even have anti-lice properties like neem oil, peppermint oil, and eucalyptus oil etc. Remembers, you must not have an allergy against any of these essential oils if you want to use them. Most effective essential for head lice includes tea tree oil, neem oil, ylang-ylang oil and nerolidol oil. Coconut oil is also effective for the same purpose.
Neem Oil or Neem Shampoo
Neem oil is a natural insecticide and is safely used to get rid of head lice. You may use neem leaves for this purpose. Boil some neem leave in water for an hour and then use that boiled water to wash your head with shampoo. For better results, you may use three tea-spoons of neem oil or even neem containing shampoo to wash your hair.
Lime Juice & Garlic Paste
The strong smell of garlic paste can suffocate the head lice. Lime juice boosts it property. So make a paste of some garlic cloves and mix it with lime juice. Now, apply this mixture to coat your head hair and wait for 30 mins to an hour. After then, wash your hair with warm water.
Treat Family as A Whole
While you are up treating head lice, it is important not to forget, head lice can spread from a person to person easily. So you have to treat the family as a whole, so you may not again have infested with head lice from one of your nearby relatives.
