Diarrhea is not something hard to know because everyone does have suffered diarrhea at some point in their life. As food travels in our digestive system, extra water is absorbed into our blood and excreted through kidney into the urine. Anything disturbing the intestinal function of absorbing extra water leads to excess watery stools, a condition we called diarrhea. Diarrhea may be the troublesome condition if results into excess water loss. But we can do have ways to manage diarrhea at home with simple steps.
Avoid Certain Foods Now
The first important thing when you have suffered diarrhea is not to eat or drink anything that may aggravate it. Milk, carbonated drinks like soda or caffeinated drinks, alcohol and artificially flavored drinks can worsen your diarrhea symptoms so you have to avoid them now. You should also avoid fruit juices because of their high fructose content that makes digestion hard. Similarly, do not eat vegetables that produce gas in your gut like corn, beans, peas, chickpeas, peppers, and broccoli etc.
In diarrhea, intestinal lining becomes inflamed and such foods may cause irritation which further downgrades diarrhea rather improving it.
Eat Yogurt As A Probiotic
Yogurt is a source of fresh bacteria like lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium. These live bacteria restore the intestinal lining by destroying bad bacteria in our track which may be causing diarrhea. So eating two bowls of yogurt as a probiotic in a day is a wise choice to resolve your diarrhea. You can also add a banana in yogurt to boost its effects.
Eat Banana With High Pectin Levels
Banana contains a high level of pectin, a type of fiber that absorbs excess water from our stools. So it is recommended to eat a few bananas to reduce your watery condition especially in the case of children. Remember, banana is also a second big source of potassium, an electrolyte which is lost in diarrhea. We also need to replenish it.
Chamomile Tea – Anti-Spasmodic
Chamomile tea is helpful in treating diarrhea due to its anti-spasmodic properties. It also reduces the intestinal inflammation that is responsible for diarrhea. Chamomile tea is simple to prepare. All you have to do is to steep one teaspoon of chamomile flowers and one teaspoon of peppermint leaves in a cup of water. Boil it for 10 minutes. Drink chamomile tea 2-3 times a day.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is effective in treating diarrhea owing to its acidic nature that kills harmful bacteria in our gut causing diarrhea. You need to add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it 1-2 times a day until your diarrhea subsides.
Fenugreek Seeds With High Mucilage Content
High mucilage content in fenugreek seeds is responsible for their strong anti-diarrheal properties as mucilage also absorbs excess water in our gut. The tip is to chew a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds along with some yogurt. You can also make a paste from crushing fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds together and then add some yogurt to your recipe. Eat this mixture 3-4 times a day to relieve your diarrhea.
Consume High Fiber Diet & Roughage
High fiber diet must be included in your eating plan during diarrhea crisis. Otherwise, you should at least a bowl of roughage or salad once a day.
